THE ROGUE KING WHO LOVED ME

Fallen angels were once angels before they were cast out of heaven.
Ryker Norman, the Vulture Rogue King, feared by kings and Alphas, was once an Alpha's son before his parents were brutally murdered and he was forced to leave his home. Years later, Ryker paid his dues to the demons who trained him and he's back for retribution. First on his list was the man who murdered his parents and took over the pack. He needed more than retribution, he needed their daughter so he could live. Alicia Rose, pampered, loved, and spoiled by her parents, woke up one morning to realize her life had changed. Her parents were murdered and her pack had been taken over by the brute Rogue King. Alicia Rose would rather die than take Ryker Norman, the Rogue King as her second chance mate. She’ll do anything possible to make him reject her. Even if it was to dance to the tune of his music. The game was on, the puppet and the master were ready for their shit show. Whoever wins gets to go home alive but neither Ryker nor Alicia Rose is ready to lose.

SAMPLE CHAPTER

PROLOGUE

The day Ryker turned eighteen was the day the skies became red and the heavens mourned.

It was a normal morning for him; nothing was unusual. His schedule was up to date; he'd trained as the future Alpha of the pack as he used to. He walked down the stairs to find his family—the Alpha, Luna, and his baby brother having breakfast.

"You're going to be late for school, young man," his mom cautioned as he walked down the stairs, carrying his strap bag with him. Ryker hated school; if he could have his way, he would be on the training ground all day.

He snorted. "You're forgetting something more important, young lady," he sassed back at his mom and earned a playful frown from his dad.

"You don't get to talk to her that way, little boy. Only I get to and it's usually during a very important period,"

Ryker made an annoying sound. He wasn't in the mood to hear his parents dirty talk each other.

"Get a room," he groaned. His mom hit his dad on the chest, playfully.

Ryker turned to his baby brother of three years and pulled his chubby cheeks as he giggled.

"Hi Ry," he turned when he heard his mom calling him by the nickname she gave her.

She was holding a wrapped, medium-sized box gently and had a smile on her face. She was Luna and had always radiated so much energy and joy around the pack. Ryker didn't know how she did it but he never could get sad whenever she was with him.

"Happy birthday, boy," she said with a wide smile on her face.

"Thanks, Mama,"

He hugged her and kissed her cheeks.

"I appreciate this,"

"I know, but before you unwrap your gifts, get to school first. I don't want you to be late. If you get lucky, you'll find your mate,"

He cocked his eyebrows. "I'm not looking forward to that,"

"You should. It's a euphoric experience,"

He shrugged. "See you guys later then, hopefully after the euphoric experience," he rolled his eyes.

"You'll get your other gift when you get back,"

His father announced.

"What is it?" He asked curiously.

"It's a secret. A family artifact. It gets passed down from son to son every generation, and it's your turn, my boy,"

His grandfather had once told him about the tradition, and maybe one of the things Ryker always looked forward to was finding out what this secret was. He wasn't usually the curious type.

"See you later, old man,"

His father laughed.

Ryker was rummaging through his locker trying to find the softball Drew, his future Gamma gave him the previous week when something different hit him. It was a tantalizing scent of jasmine, sweet and heady, with an almost intoxicating allure. He looked ahead and immediately noticed where the exotic scent was coming from and why.

Mate! His wolf roared in his head but he controlled his beast. He wasn't about to haul her ass right there in the middle of school.

He was the future Alpha and he should learn to control himself. Moreover, she wasn't eighteen yet even though they were close friends.

Alicia! The only woman Ryker called Alicia Rose.

"Yo, buddy, what's up?" Drew and Alicia Rose walked up to Ryker.

Alicia Rose fist-bumped him and his heart raced uncontrollably. She wasn't feeling what he was feeling but he wished she knew.

"Are you okay, Ryker? You look pale," Alicia Rose placed her palm on his forehead.

Ryker slapped her hand away and growled at her.

Alicia laughed lightly and moved away from him.

"What's up with you?" Drew asked.

His eyes never left Alicia's. She suddenly became uncomfortable under his intense gaze and batted her eyelashes as she tried looking away from him.

"What?" She asked.

His wolf wanted him to take her at that instance. Kiss her or at least tell her but Ryker decided against that. He would rather wait till she turned eighteen in two years before doing anything and that would be in two months.

He could tame his beast for two years.

"Are you acting this strange because you want to avoid coming to your birthday party tonight?" Drew asked.

"You know he hates parties, right, Ryker?" Alicia Rose asked.

Mark her!

"Fuck off," he growled under his breath and walked away from the group immediately.

Alicia called his name but he didn't respond. He wanted a run. Right as he walked into the forest, he shifted into his dark brown wolf and broke into a run.

What the hell was the moon goddess thinking mating him to his best friend? Although he had a little crush on her when they were younger, he never acted upon it and allowed it to die.

Now, why was his body on fire at the thoughts of Alicia Rose? Why were his senses shattered at the image of her face?

Ryker didn't realize he had been running for two hours until he ran close to the border. His father's pack was one of the largest and it was hardly developed. He didn't understand his father's reservations about expanding their territory but he already made a pledge to himself that once he became the Alpha, he would expand their territories and take in more people.

He looked forward to being the Alpha more than anything.

"Ryker," a new, panicking voice rushed through the mindlink. It was his mother, something was wrong. She had never called him by his full name like that.

"Mama, what's wrong?" Ryker asked.

"Run! Run, Ryker! Far away from here,"

"What the heck are you talking about? What's wrong?"

He turned back to the pack.

"Beta Chan openly challenged your father and he won. Your father is dead, Ryker"

He stopped in his steps and immediately shifted back to his human form. He picked duo his clothes from the floor and hurriedly put them back on.

"Mama!" There was no response from his mom's side.

He'd only left home a few hours ago. Why would such a bad thing happen within that short period of time? Ryker found it hard to believe.

He rushed towards the Alpha's apartment as soon as he was closer to the buildings. Right before he turned to the corner, he caught a glimpse of his mother's body on the floor and that of his little brother.

A hand grabbed him into a dark corner and pulled him away from the limelight. It was Drew. Alicia Rose stood at a far distance from him, tears running down from her eyes.

"You need to go, Ryker,"

"What is this?"

"You need to run, man. Save yourself,"

Ryker didn't know what to think or how to feel.

"My family?" He cried.

Drew held him by his collar. "I'm sorry, Ryker but if they see you too, they'll kill you,"

Ryker nodded. He understood just that.

Whatever Beta Chan wanted with the challenge, he got it but he didn't have to go as far as killing his family. It was barbaric. He could've taken over the Alpha role and left them alive.

Ryker walked away from Drew and headed towards Alicia. Without thinking twice, he kissed her.

Alicia was shocked but before she could kiss him back, he tore his lips away from hers.

"I, Ryker Norman, reject you Alicia Rose as my fated mate and I release you from any bond from this day on,"

He could feel Alicia shiver frantically in his arms but that didn't matter to him. She was the daughter of his most hated enemy, Beta Chan. If Beta Chan decided to ruin his family, he wouldn't be committing a grave sin if he ruined his daughter.

"Accept it, Alicia. I don't have all day," he commanded through gritted teeth.

“I...ac I accept," she swallowed hard and held on to his shirt as heavy tears rolled down her eyes. She was confused and in pain at the same time.

Ryker removed her hand from his shirt and turned his back towards her. As he walked back towards Drew, he didn't spare her a second glance.

"No matter what, stay alive, Ryker,"

Ryker shook his head.

"I don't want to. What's the essence?" Tears rolled down his eyes.

Drew tried hugging him but Ryker moved away. He shifted into his wolf and ran for the border despite knowing a lot of wolves were after him. Beta Chan had recruited some wolves from outside the pack. He had the entire plan worked out.

As Ryker got closer to the river bordering the pack, a silver bullet hit him in the leg. Even though he was losing blood, he still jumped into the river, his blood trailing behind.

He could feel his body running out of strength as he struggled to breathe. Soon enough, he couldn't move again. He fought to swim, he fought for his life but it was too late. Right as he sank into the water, darkness descended on him and the only faces he saw was that of his family.

Maybe he would be reunited with them soon enough.
